Molitor says his view of the importance of the NYS legislature grew during his first legislative session, but, is critical of some aspects of it...
It's been a learning experience for first-term New York State Assemblyman Andrew Molitor... who just wrapped up his first legislative session in Albany.  Not only is Molitor a first-time legislator... it's the first time he's ever held elected office.  Prior to running for election last year... Molitor says he never gave much thought to how important the legislature is to the state... and, each member's constituents.  He believes that people want their representatives to take their voices to Albany, and make strong and persuasive arguments for the legislation they propose, support -- or oppose.  However... Molitor says, too often in Albany, there are too many ways to silence voices.  The Westfield Republcan says one example is a bill can be submitted on the floor with less than 15 minutes notice, and not have to go through committee.  Molitor says he has some new legislation that he's submitted... including one that continues bail reform for lesser crimes... but, puts it back in place for more serious or violent acts.  He says there are still certain crimes in the bail reform statute that are violent, or heinous.  Molitor says he's also submitted a bill that would better protect school teachers, nurses, police, and others under "protected status" from being spit on, or struck -- even if there are no injuries.  That bill would make it a Class-E Felony.  Molitor made his comments during a recent "Community Spotlight" program on the six Media One Radio Group stations.
