Multiple youths, and adults, arrested following curfew violations early Wednesday morning in Jamestown...
Three people have been arrested in Jamestown for allegedly allowing five minors they were supposed to be supervising be outside after curfew and attacking people and smashing out windows. City police say they were called to an eastside address shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday. But.. prior to arrival, officers say the juveniles had run off. Based on the descriptions, numerous complaints and previous dealings with the youths... officers quickly responded to the juvenile's home and made contact. When they arrived... three more juveniles were out in the city street after curfew and refused to comply with numerous warnings to leave the area and return home. Officers placed the two juveniles into custody from the previous incident when other group of youths began approaching the patrol vehicles and were attempting to open the patrol car doors. After ignoring the officers warnings... police began taking the juveniles into custody. One tried to flee and then attempted to hit an officer before being arrested. The investigation led to the arrests of three people. They included: 44 year-old William... and, 38-year-old Katherine Morse... who allegedly failed to exercise control of their child who continuously is located committing crimes both before... and after curfew hours. The Morse's were both charged with a curfew violation and endangering the welfare of a child. Police also found that 35 year-old Mercedes Baca was in charge of four juveniles who were unsupervised... and, she was arrested on four counts of curfew violation... and, four counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Police say those children were accused of committing crimes both before and after curfew hours. The Morses and, Baca were all held pending arraignment... and, the juveniles were all released and charges are pending.
JPD warns arrests were coming due to persistent curfew violations, and other crimes...
Jamestown police say they have seen a "heavy increase" in the number of juveniles under the age of 16 during the overnight hours. Officials are now warning that "these juveniles have frequent contacts with JPD and are committing criminal acts... that include criminal mischief, assaults, stealing, and riding motorized bikes on the streets along with other crimes." JPD officials add they are committed to enforcing the Jamestown City Code along with state Penal Law regarding Endangering the Welfare of a Child if applicable. Juveniles up to age 16 should be off the streets between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Parents, guardians and those who have custody and control of such minors will be held accountable for juvenile actions... and, juveniles will be petitioned to the appropriate Court.
Air Quality Index advisory remains in effect due to Canadian Wildfire smoke...
All of Western New York... including all of Chautauqua County... remain under an Air Quality Health Advisory due to smoke from Canadian wildfires. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation... and, State Department of Health... is continuing the advisory for "fine particulate matter." Forecaster Dan Kelly with the National Weather Service in Buffalo says the smoke was especially visable late this morning... and, will remain so through the day today... and into the early overnight. Kelly says it'll return Friday morning, and be around through Friday afternoon. Both state environmental and health agencies say the visable smoke and hazy skies will also bring smoke-related pollution... and, the very young and old should be protected, and stay inside as much as possible. The sky and clouds in the immediate Jamestown-area showed a slight orange tint at times by mid-afternoon yesterday. Air Quality Health Advisories are issued when DEC meteorologists predict levels of pollution... either ozone or fine particulate matter... are expected to exceed an Air Quality Index (AQI) value of 100.
City man arrested for allegedly swinging a baseball bat at two people...
A man from Jamestown has been arrested for allegedly swinging a baseball bat at two people -- one a child -- during a fight Wednesday afternoon. city police say they were called to a southside address about 5 p.m. on a report of a fight with weapons involved. A JPD STRIVE Detail responded... and, investigated. They found the suspect... 38 year-old Joshua Becker... a short distance away and he ws arrested for third-degree criminal possession of a weapon... and, second-degree menacing. Becker was taken to the city jail pending arraignment.
Two children found in living in deplorable conditions in Jamestown, two adults arrested...
Two people from Jamestown have been arrested for allegedly allowing two children to live in deplorable conditions. City police say they were called to a northside address about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday to check on the well-being of multiple children. After investigating... officers arrested both 38 year-old Mariangel Velazquez-Rosario, and 26 year-old Fernando Mojica-Reyes on two counts each of endangering the welfare of a child. Both were held pending arraignment.
City woman arrested on drug charges during probation check...
A woman from Jamestown has been arrested for being found in possession of drugs during a probation check last Thursday afternoon. City police say they were called to an eastside address shortly before 4 p.m. for a narcotics investigation. Officers say they found that 44 year-old Lisa George was in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine... digital scales... and, other paraphernalia. Police arrested George for third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance... and two counts of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia. She was held pending arraignment.
