NWS warns of "Severe Weather Risk" for Western New York -- including Chautauqua County -- for late Tuesday...
It'll be mostly sunny across Western New York today... but that will change by Tuesday afternoon... as a strong cold front will bring the possibility of severe weather to the region. The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center currently has most of Western New York, including Chautauqua County, under an enhanced severe weather risk. Forecaster Jon Hitchcock with the National Weather Service in Buffalo says it's a risk level of 3 out of 5 the region may see only once or twice a year. Hitchcock says showers and thunderstorms will move into the area Tuesday afternoon and evening. He says the primary threat will be damaging winds with a secondary threat of large hail, and an isolated tornado can't be ruled out. Hitchcock adds that the greatest risk will be inland from Lake Erie. He says chances of severe storms are less along the lake shore due to Lake Erie still being cold at this time of year. Hitchcock advises residents to have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
