Nashville notes: George & Priscilla team up, New Music Friday releases and more

George Birge is about to release a duet with Priscilla Block. You can hear a snippet of "You Ain't" on his Instagram now. "I'm only outta my mind, baby, because you ain't," they sing in the heartbreak tune, which arrives May 15.

Parmalee will perform a headlining concert during The National Salute to America's Heroes, which will stream on Fox Nation live from Miami Beach on May 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET.

Vince Gill's seventh EP in the 50 Years from Home series, titled Nobody Held Her Like Me, is out now. It features six new songs, plus a version of his hit "Whenever You Come Around." While the title track sounds like it's about a girl, it's actually about a guitar.

Kameron Marlowe is out with a new single, "Running," which he says is about "the one that got away and the definition of passion and pain knowing that they aren't coming back."

Tigirlily Gold has a new track called "I Do or Die," which they say was influenced by "songs by confident women like The Chicks, The Band Perry, Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert." In the song, the sisters sing, "Your new three-piece suit’ll look great getting married in/ But if you mess this up, it’ll be what you’re buried in."

Ashley Cooke's new single "high school sweetheart," from her upcoming self-titled sophomore album, is out now.

The video for Josh Ross' "Scared of Getting Sober" is out now, as is the lyric video for Dylan Scott's "Slow Down Ol' Son."

Koe Wetzel surprises fans with not one but two new tracks from 'The Night Champion'

Koe Wetzel's 'The Night Champion' (Columbia Records)

When Koe Wetzel announced his new album The Night Champion earlier this week, he said he'd be releasing a new song called "Hurts Like You" on Friday. Well, he did, but he also gave fans a bonus.

In addition to "Hurts Like You," Koe released a second song, "Dollar and a Bottle," which was such a surprise that even some of his team didn't know he was doing it. "F***, here’s two," he wrote on Instagram

Explaining the title of The Night Champion, which is coming out June 12, Koe says, "I feel like right now I’m the best version of myself I’ve ever been. I survived the night side of me. I’m coming out of it a champion. That’s the essence of this record."

Koe's most recent album, 9 Lives, was certified Gold and spawned the five-week #1 "High Road," which went on to become the most-played country song of 2025. Meanwhile, "Rocky Mountain Low," his duet with Corey Kent, is just outside of the top 10.

Koe's currently touring in Australia, but he'll bring The Night Champion tour to North America starting July 8 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

(College) Days Like These: Luke Combs finally gets his diploma

Luke Combs performs on ‘The 59th Annual CMA Awards’ live from Nashville, Nov. 19 on ABC and streaming next day on Hulu. (Disney/Frank Micelotta)

Luke Combs left college around 20 credits shy of getting his degree -- but he made up for that on Thursday when he returned to his alma mater to receive an honorary degree.

Luke returned to Boone, North Carolina's Appalachian State University, which he attended from 2008 to 2012, on Thursday for the honor, which was presented during the school's 2026 Commencement ceremonies. According to the Wautauga Democrat, Luke's degree came in recognition of his "historic achievements in the music industry" and for his willingness to use his platform for "service and community impact."

“In every sense, Luke Combs represents the character and heart of a Mountaineer,” the school's Chancellor, Heather Norris, said during the ceremony, as per the paper. “His story inspires our students to dream big, work hard, and always remember where they came from."

"He represents the very best of our university community: a life lived with purpose, driven by a commitment to excellence and a genuine care for others."

Luke originally studied criminal justice at school, but his honorary degree is in music.

It wasn't Luke's first time back to campus, either: He returned in 2022 when ESPN's College GameDay came to Boone, to serve as the celebrity guest picker.

You can see pics and video of Luke in his cap and gown, receiving his degree, on Instagram. There's also a cute pic of Luke holding a balloon saying, "Congrats Grad."

Luke's wife, Nicole Combs, posted a photo on her Instagram Story of a card and a bouquet of flowers, with the caption "Graduation Day!" She also posted a photo of herself and Luke together at the ceremony with the joking caption, "They grow up so fast!"

"It’s the kind of place where you might run into familiar faces and make memories along the way, whether it’s your first time in town or your hundredth night out ... I can’t wait to celebrate together with friends and family.”

'Honey, I'm Home': ACM host Shania Twain sees herself as a country girl

Shania Twain (Academy of Country Music)

Even though she's a global pop/country superstar, Canadian Shania Twain sees hosting the 61st Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas as a homecoming of sorts.

"This is fun to me," she says. "Hosting the ACMs is a chance to go celebrate all of the other artists, meet the new artists, the up-and-coming artists, [to] celebrate a lot of the artists that have been rockin’ it the last several years that I have not been around much, to say 'congratulations' and 'way to go' and all that kinda stuff."

After finding success in multiple formats, the "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" hitmaker leaves little doubt which one is closest to her heart.

"For me, it is a chance to reconnect with my favorite genre, which is my root music, country, and do my best job representing my genre," she says of hosting the ACMs.

Shania has quite a collection of ACM trophies herself, having won both top new female vocalist and album for The Woman in Me in 1995, before taking the entertainer trophy in 1999. The academy also gave her its special Poet's Award for her songwriting in 2022.

The 61st ACMs take place Sunday, May 17, at MGM Grand Garden Arena and stream live on Prime Video at 8 p.m. ET.

Nashville notes: Reba's live video + Brad Paisley's on the news

The music video for Reba McEntire's new song, "One Night in Tulsa," was recorded live during her April concert at her restaurant and bar, Reba's Place, in Atoka, Oklahoma.

Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams-Paisley will be featured on Friday's NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas in the new Great Americans series. They'll discuss their work with the Nashville nonprofit The Store, which offers the benefits of a food bank in an atmosphere that works to eliminate any stigma by mimicking retail.

Kacey Musgraves reveals there's more to the 'Middle of Nowhere'

Kacey Musgraves' 'Middle of Nowhere' (Lost Highway)

Kacey Musgraves is doubling down on her Middle of Nowhere Tour.

The "Follow Your Arrow" hitmaker is adding five new dates to the trek supporting her new album, adding adjacent days in cities she's already playing.

That means her tour will now kick off Aug. 20 in Chicago, instead of Aug. 21, with new shows in Boston, Austin and Dallas. She's adding Brooklyn on Sept. 2, following her previous two days in New York.

Presales for the new dates are underway now, before tickets become available to the public on May 8.

She's also revealed two Middle of Nowhere bonus tracks: "All My Exes (Kacey's Version)" and "Caballero."

The Texas native's also back on country radio for the first time in a while, with "Loneliest Girl" making its debut on the country airplay charts.

Riley Green, Keith Urban and Darius Rucker ready to sing at American Music Awards

The 52nd American Music Awards (Dick Clark Productions)

You can add Riley Green, Keith Urban and Darius Rucker to the list of country artists who'll be performing at the upcoming American Music Awards.

It will be Riley's first time taking the AMA stage to sing, while Keith will do a song from his yacht rock record, Flow State, which drops June 12.

Darius won't exactly have on his country hat, however, as Hootie & the Blowfish mark the 30th anniversary of their 1996 AMA win for pop/rock new artist by performing a medley of their biggest hits.

The fan-voted 52nd American Music Awards, hosted by Queen Latifah, will air on CBS and Paramount+ on May 25 live from Las Vegas. Taylor Swift is this year's leading nominee, with eight nods, followed by sombr, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Dean and Morgan Wallen with seven each.

Fan voting is now open via VoteAMAs.com and the @AMAs Instagram page. Voting closes Friday, except for two categories — social song of the year and tour of the year — which stays open through the first 30 minutes of the telecast.

The ACM visual media of the year winner is 'Cuckoo'

Stephen Wilson Jr. (Academy of Country Music)

Newcomer Stephen Wilson Jr. learned he'd picked up his first Academy of Country Music trophy for visual media of the year for "Cuckoo" on Wednesday.

It's an impressive feat for the first-time nominee, as he beats out Megan Moroney's "6 Months Later," Miranda Lambert & Chris Stapleton's "A Song to Sing," Lainey Wilson's "Somewhere Over Laredo" and Cody Johnson's "The Fall."

Stephen co-directed the video.

The recognition comes as his first radio single, "Gary," has just cracked both the Mediabase and Billboard Country Airplay charts. The video for that song stars noted actor Gary Sinise.

Kenny Chesney could 'Carry On' once he realized he had the right song

Kenny Chesney's "Carry On" (HEY NOW Records)

Kenny Chesney was looking for a very specific kind of song to put out as his first new music in two years.

Then he realized he'd had it all along, though he was saving it for his "next songwriter-driven island project."

“Once I realized what ‘Carry On’ could be, the song fell into place," he explains. "Some songs are just fun to cut. As much as I loved what it was, when we started tracking, I realized this was the song I’d been looking for, the one that captures everything about how I try to live my life – and the way I think all the people who love these songs live their lives, too.”

"Carry On" drops Friday and is the first release on Kenny's new HEY NOW Records partnership.

Miranda Lambert's 'Crisco' has the Loretta Lynn seal of approval

Miranda Lambert & Loretta Lynn at the 44th Annual CMA Awards at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on November 10, 2010 (Bryan Bedder/WireImage)

Miranda Lambert's new single, "Crisco," doesn't officially drop for another week, but it's already Loretta Lynn approved.

"You know the Lynn family loves some Crisco!" the late icon's relatives wrote on her official account. "@mirandalambert we can’t wait to hear your new single when it comes out on May 15th. Mom would tell you that Crisco will do you right every time!"

Of course, the last line echoes Loretta's tagline from her legendary commercials for the product during the '80s. It's also accompanied by a screen grab of her holding the Crisco can, alongside Miranda with a bedazzled version, since both the sound and the visuals of the new song play on the Crisco/disco rhyme.

Loretta presented Miranda with her first CMA female vocalist trophy in 2010, the same year the two collaborated on a new version of Loretta's signature song with Sheryl Crow for the Coal Miner's Daughter tribute album.

The ACM trophy Parker McCollum would especially like to add to his collection

'Parker McCollum: The Deluxe Edition' (MCA)

Parker McCollum already has a pair of Academy of Country Music trophies, having won new male artist in 2021 and visual media of the year for "Burn It Down" in 2023.

But his sole nomination this year, for album of the year for his self-titled record, is especially meaningful.

"I spent the whole day just kinda processing it, reading text messages, [with] people calling," he says of the day the contenders were announced. "That record, that's everything I got, that record. That's as good and as much and as committed and as deep as I can go, that I know of."

"So, for it to be recognized and be mentioned in such a stout category with so many great records nominated and so many great records that could've been nominated, I don't know. As a songwriter, that one really, really means a lot," he adds.

Parker McCollum includes his current single, "Killin' Me," and his previous hit, "What Kinda Man."

The Texas native competes against Zach Top's Ain't in It for My Health, Carter Faith's Cherry Valley, Riley Green's Don't Mind If I Do (Deluxe) and Morgan Wallen's I'm the Problem

Tune in to see who wins Sunday, May 17, as the 61st ACMs stream live from Las Vegas on Prime Video.

As the weather warms up, you can 'Fish Hunt Golf Drink' with Luke Bryan

Luke Bryan (Disney/Frank Micelotta)

Luke Bryan topped the chart with 2016's "Huntin', Fishin' and Lovin' Every Day" from the Kill the Lights album, and 10 years later, it seems the song has a successor.

The Georgia native's teasing a new track on his socials, titled "Fish Hunt Golf Drink," featuring a video of him sitting on a bucket as he fishes on a dock and sings the new song.

"Let me tell you how every day would go," he captioned the post, quoting some of the lyrics and adding #FishHuntGolfDrink.

"If I could have it my own way, you know/ Let me tell you how every day would go," he sings. "Wake up, coffee, camo, climb tree, wet line, eighteen/ Fish, hunt, golf, drink/ All fall, all spring, all summer long/ I'll be livin' it up and livin' it on/ A country boy's dream/ Fish, hunt, golf, drink."

Though it's not clear when the new outdoor anthem will drop, you can presave it now.

Lainey Wilson went 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' for some of the notes in 'Laredo'

Lainey Wilson (Academy of Country Music)

CMA and ACM entertainer of the year Lainey Wilson admits she does a little too much sometimes in the studio — but she doesn't regret it.

Take, for example, the big note in her latest chart-topper, "Somewhere Over Laredo."

"I'll be honest, this song is not easy to sing," she said at the #1 party for the hit. "And for some reason, like when I get in the studio, I think I'm Superwoman and I think I can get in there and just hold these notes like I did with 'Heart Like a Truck.' And I feel like I just let it all go when I'm in there. And it kinda just rolled out of me."

The Louisiana native also sees it as a bit of a dare for the devoted.

"I like giving the fans something to kind of try to do," she reveals. "I think it's like a fun way for them to, like, be in their car driving down the road and ... they see how long they could hold it."

Ultimately, Lainey sees it as a stroke of inspiration.

"It was a moment for me, at least, like the different parts that I chose to go up and down and pullin’ back and goin’ for it was really just kind of led by straight emotion," she reflects.

"Somewhere Over Laredo" is up for song, single and visual media of the year at the 61st Academy of Country Music Awards May 17 in Las Vegas.
